Some Panama City Beach residents are not happy about a possible high rise development planned for the west side of the beach.
The developer was requesting an extension on his timeline to break ground, citing changes in the city's land development codes.
The current codes, which allow the high rise and 4 story parking garage, will expire next year, but the developer is asking for more time so he can break ground at a later date.
“He can develop now, he can start work on it with the original intent, but if the development order expires then he will probably have to follow under the new land development code," said Panama City Beach Major Gayle Oberst.
Many residents say it the high rise will hurt current homeowners by causing more pollution, over-crowding, traffic and environmental problems.
