Okaloosa county residents may have noticed some smoke in the air Sunday; chances are it was coming from a prescribed burn on Eglin Air Force Base. Eglin officials say the fire spanned 1,200 acres of grass.
They obtained a permit from the Florida Forest Service. The burn began Sunday morning and should wrap up around 6:30 pm. According to Eglin officials, light to no winds made for optimal conditions.
If you're driving in the area and happen to encounter any lingering smoke, Eglin officials urge you slow down and use extreme caution.
