OKALOOSA COUNTY-- The U.S. Coast Guard report on an incident that damaged the Brooks Bridge in Okaloosa County last year, provides some answers, but raises more questions.
The report says a piece of dredging equipment hit the bridge, damaging a section of railing, and breaking a pipe that carries water from Ft. Walton Beach to Okaloosa Island.
The Coast Guard found that at least one of the four people on board raised the dredging equipment before the getting to the bridge. But investigators stopped short of blaming the incident on human error.
The damaged force authorities to close the bridge.
Drivers had to take a long detour to go between Destin and Ft. Walton beach.
Okaloosa Island went without drinking water until crews could repair the water line.
