Ronnie Gilley Begins His Federal Prison Time

Enterprise, Alabama developer, and the driving force behind the former Country Crossing Bingo Casino in Dothan is now in prison.

Ronnie Gilley reported to the federal penitentiary in Atlanta Tuesday to begin serving a 7-year sentence for offering bribes to Alabama legislators.

Gilley pled guilty last year to offering bribes in-exchange for lawmakers’ votes to approve casino gambling in Alabama. In exchange, for the plea deal, he agreed to testify for the government against the other defendants.

The first trial ended in a hung jury. Then most of the defendants were acquitted during the second trial.

So, Gilley is one of the only ones who will serve time for the corruption scandal. He was supposed to report to prison August 27th, but received several delays for health reasons.

Country Crossing went out of business, and has since reopened under new ownership as Center Stage.
