Destin has been known for The World's Luckiest Fishing Village since the 1950's and now there's another catch to reel tourists to the area.
The Worlds Luckiest Fishing Village has another name to call its own- home of the world largest fishing lure. It stands 10 and a half feet tall and weighs in at 355 pounds.
SS Spitfire Mercantile at Sandestin's Baytowne Marina is now home to the world’s largest fishing lure.
"And it's also the first the first time that this record has been set," said Guinness World Records Representative Amanda Mochain.
It took creator Mark Davis and his team 10 months to build the masterpiece- wanting something to hook more business to his store, but he credits his better half for the spark of inspiration.
"My wife and i talked about it and she said it really needed to be nautical, a lure. We just kind of took it from there," said creator Mark Davis.
"Bigger is better," said Flatliner Lures owner David Patridge.
And Sandestin staff couldn't agree more.
"This is really just another attraction for families, it's a great photo op for people so it really adds to the whole atmosphere here at Sandestin- we love it," said Marketing Manager Sarah Brazwell.
And what can really top it?
"The world's largest golf ball or something?" said Brazwell.
Probably not a golf ball, but Davis did say they are flirting with a fishing pole idea.
The world's largest fishing lure also has a drink named after it- uniquely called 'the flatliner.'
