A demo for transportable security towers was at Pier Park Tuesday. Two towers are on loan to the police department. The towers can be moved from location to location, before being raised as high as 25 feet above a crowd.
Lt. Rich McClanahan writes grants for the police department, and says these tools could be useful for Panama City Beaches many large events.
"There could be some people in there just dancing that does not need officers to respond into the crowd vs. a fight. So with the towers, if we have eyes in the air we can send officers to the problems or identify people in the crowd who are causing problems."
Officials say the towers are likely to be seen at Pier Park and around Spinnakers and Club La Vela during the next couple weeks.
