Senator Don Gaetz made his way through Washington County Tuesday- shaking hands and meeting one on one with locals.
Gaetz told us he had heard from a number of constituents on a wide array of issues. But, one topic repeatedly came up: Health care.
Florida left 51 billion dollars in federal funds on the table by turning down the option to expand Medicaid.
"We've learned we can't depend on Washington" Gaetz said. So I'll be working with Speaker Weatherford and our other legislators to try and find a Florida solution so more people in Florida who are uninsured or under-insured can have access to more care. We need to make sure we have the medical infrastructure that can take care of people who are uninsured or under-insured, but I'm not sure we can always depend on the feds to keep their promises."
Florida is one of 13 states not participating in the Medicaid expansion.
