In the February 1st post liked over 1,800 times, McKeithen says he believes he should follow the constitution as well as the laws of the state of Florida.
He says gun control proposals from president Obama concern him, and that he will oppose any legislation that would infringe on the second amendment rights.
The post has sparked a debate on Facebook and in the community about the possible enforcement of new gun regulation.
"And the congress and the president can do whatever they like, but they are going to have to answer to the people. And the people have the basic law behind them," said JD Webster.
"He would be foolish if he did not uphold new laws. He is in law enforcement. And if a law is passed by a legislature then that must be enforced," said Larry Smith.
