Springfield Elementary School Teachers Receive Donation

SPRINGFIELD - Teachers at Springfield Elementary School received a welcomed donation Wednesday.

Sam's Club donated a $1,000 worth of gift cards to the teachers to buy school supplies.

The money came from a Sam's and Wal-Mart corporate program that lends a hand to low income schools.

Sam's selected 20 Springfield teachers this year to each receive $50 gift cards.

The average teacher spends as much as $500 of their own money each year on school supplies.

Local Sam's Club employees chipped in their own money to donate cover some of those needs, like tissues, pencils, hand sanitizer and glue sticks.

Springfield Elementary Teacher, Yesesia Llorens said, "We appreciate all of the communities' generosity. There have been a lot of people who have been interested in donating to Springfield and we are very grateful, so thank you."

Sam's Club Membership Team Leader, Michael Stephens said, "For me, personally, it's a great way to give back to the community. i love working for an organization that cares so much about the surrounding area. to be able to give back to the teachers and a school that truly needs the money and any kind of assistance they can that way they can help the students, it's just a great opportunity."

Every single Wal-Mart and Sam's Club in the country will select a low-income school near them to to participate in this program.

This means more schools in our area could benefit.
