Storm near MedSouth Tuesday PM in Panama City

That bad weather that blew-in Monday afternoon caused some problems, especially to our west. Severe thunderstorms caused some damages in Okaloosa County. Employees working at a Ft. Walton Beach retail plaza say they saw a car dealership roof lose part of its roof.

State Farm Insurance company representative Wendy Mumbrauer watched it happen from her office a few doors down. "I just heard something and when I ran out there, that's when I saw the metal coming off the building into Beal Parkway".

Melody Meyers, a cell phone customer service representative for Boost Mobile also watched from the safety of her showroom floor. "The corner of the Yamaha-Honda dealership was coming apart".

It was scary moments outside the shopping center as employees watched Mother Nature mangle metal off the roof of the nearby dealership and toss it into four lanes of traffic across Beal Parkway.

Newschannel 7 meteorologists say it wasn't a tornado that touched down, but the conditions were severe enough to produce just as much damage. During the severe thunderstorm warning in Ft. Walton Beach Monday afternoon, radar models indicate winds peaked between 50-and-75 miles a hour and accompanied by a few thousand lightning strikes.

"It came out of nowhere. It really was just there, and then it was gone. It literally happened within a two minute period" remembers Meyers.

The damage is estimated to be around $10,000. Fortunately, that dealership is closed on Mondays. There were also widespread reports of trees and powerlines down all over the panhandle. The good news is there are no reports of any injuries.
