Panama City - Friday afternoon Girls Inc is launching their partnership with the Biggest Loser Run/Walk here in Panama City Beach.
The goal is to inspire the girls and their families to be Strong. Smart. and Bold. in their pursuit of healthy living. In her typical fashion, Girls Inc. executive director Tammy Dunaway is leading by example, and inspiring others with the story of her journey back to better health.
"This was one of my favorite dresses," she says, referring to a size 0 dress. "Although this isn't about weight I would love to get back into this dress." Tammy Dunaway is known for being the strong, smart and bold leader of Girls Inc. in Bay County. But even she admits it's not easy to share that recent health issues and bad eating habits have lead to a 35 pound weight gain. "Most often in a small community, you want to be private to a point, one of my diagnosis was lupus and didn't want to be labeled as a person with lupus then I found out I had a pituatry tumor and I had that removed last year.
The self proclaimed "Queen of Change" is ready to hit the restart button, publicly. "I've been post surgery for over a year now and I am healthy and strong and ready to get back on the road to good health." She's doing so in the Smart. Strong. And Bold. fashion she is known for, by training for the Biggest Loser 5K on December 30th and inspiring others to do the same. "The girls are so excited, they are joining in the race with me, their families are joining in the race with me and because I'm the executive director, it's a fundraiser for Girls Inc as well. To date we have $1100 in pledges for me joining in this adventure and completing it," said Dunaway.
She emphasizes it's not about weight, it's about health, strength and furthering the mission of Girls Inc. "I'm a rolemodel for change and empowering our girls to be healthy. If you are unhealthy, you have the power to change and be healthy."
You can follow Tammy's training journey on her Facebook page, she is also creating a blog about the journey. The Biggest Loser Run/Walk is December 30th. Click on the link to donate to Girls Inc of Bay County.
