The Florida Department of Education’s Office of Professional Practices will investigate an Arnold High School science teacher.

Frank Padula, who is also an assistant football coach, is accused of having sex with an 18-year-old student from Mosley High School last fall.

Arnold High School Principal Keith Bland tells News Channel 7 that he found out about the relationship between Padula and the girl three to four weeks ago, around the time that the baby was born.

At that point, Bland says he notified Bay District school officials. School officials tell News Channel 7 they plan to send their report to the State Board of Education next week.

Because the girl is 18-years-old, no criminal charges will be filed. But Padula’s career could potentially be in question.

Despite the allegations, Bland says Padula is a good teacher who made a bad decision. He hopes the community will not let Padula's decision reflect poorly on the school.
