LYNN HAVEN - A number of local families were reunited for Thanksgiving Thursday by the home for the holidays assistance program. Lifeguard Ambulance Service carries residents from nursing or assisted living facilities to their family' homes for free.
Paramedics help people every day, but on thanksgiving, they're saving a family's holiday. It's called the Home For The Holidays assistance program.
Lifeguard Ambulance Service transports those who need assistance to their families for free. It's the second year the Mincy family has been part of it and they say they can't wait to see 85 year old papa Hosea.
"You know, you never know when we're going to pass on, but every chance that we get, we're either out there at the nursing center with him or we're trying to get him home to Lynn Haven," said Doris Mincy, a Lynn Haven resident.
The Mincy's are a part of a few families that are participating in the program for the holiday.
"You know, I'm able to go home to my family every day, every night, but these folks aren't able to and this is the opportunity we can give back to them and let them have that little bit of happiness," said Gerald Ward with Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
As they get ready to eat their Thanksgiving dinner, family members say the holiday wouldn't be the same without seeing their papa.
"We love family. We just love coming together. We just do so many things when we get together, laugh, talk, pray, have fun, talk about old times, cry sometimes. It's just a blessing having the family here," said Mincy.
The program has been going on for about seven years. Lifeguard officials say they will be offering the service for Christmas.
