PANAMA CITY Panama City Commissioners are discussing the possibility of allowing golf carts on certain roads.
Commissioners will vote on whether to allow a pilot program within the area of the Cove during the next Panama City Commission meeting.
This morning, Panama City Police Chief Scott Ervin discussed the boundaries of the proposed area.
After agreeing to limit golf cart use to roads with a 25 mile per hour speed limit or less, commissioners okay-ed the area south of 4th Street to Massalina and Watson Bayou.
But there were still a few concerns - like Bunkers Cove Road.
Panama City Commissioner Mike Nichols pointed out, "Even at doing the speed limit, coming around those curves is pretty quick. You put a golf cart on the other side. I just think that bunker's cove is a dangerous road. The straight streets that you see and stuff are okay.
Ervin says he's been looking at how other cities allow golf carts on the roads to help commissioners draft the ordinance.
