Okaloosa County- The Florida Highway Patrol is waiting on blood tests to see if alcohol played a role in a serious accident Friday night that sent two to the hospital.

Troopers said the accident happened just after 10:30 p.m. on County Road 180 north of Charles Booker Road in northern Okaloosa County.

According to the crash report, Brewton, Alabama resident Andrew Butts, 22 years old, was headed east, when investigators said he entered a sharp curve in the road. Brewton, Alabama resident Joseph York, 23 years old, was also riding in the car.

Appearing unable to navigate that turn, FHP said Butts drove onto the southern shoulder and spun out of control. The passenger side slammed into three trees before the truck finally came to a stop.

Paramedics rushed York to Sacred Heart Pensalcola where he was listed in guarded condition Saturday night, improved from critical condition earlier in the day. Butts was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center with minor injuries. Charges could be filed pending the results of blood alcohol tests.
