Update: State Troopers now say Courtney Miller was driving the car and that Brittney Gallagher was the front seat passenger.
A spring break trip to Florida ends in tragedy for a group of Ohio State students.
They were headed home about 11:15 this morning when the driver, 21-year-old Brittney Gallagher of Willoughby, Ohio, crossed the center line of Highway 20 near Ebro. State Troopers say Gallagher “veered aggressively” back into the westbound lanes. She then corrected a second time, causing the 2000 Dodge, 4-door car to rotate counter clockwise back into oncoming traffic.
The car hit a 2006 Dodge pickup in the east bound lanes. Gallagher and the front seat passenger, 21-year-old Courtney Miller of Niles, Ohio, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in Gallagher’s car, 22-year-old Diana Mitchell of Solon, Ohio and 22-year-old Lauren Kane of Willoughby, Ohio, were both taken to Bay Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup, 26-year-old Kelly Porter of Stillwater, Oklahoma and three of his four passengers, 22-year-old Tyler Magar of Yukon, Oklahoma, 23-year-old Courtney Burnett of Edmond, Oklahoma and 21-year-old 21 Matt Gallant of Oklahoma City, were all taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center in serious condition. 21-year-old Braden Solis of Oklahoma City suffered minor injuries.
Porter, Solis and Magar and Burnett are students at Oklahoma State University. Gallant attends the University of Oklahoma. Both schools started spring break after class on Friday.
