DEFUNIAK SPRINGS - Sunday will be the last day on the job for a nine-year veteran of the Walton Co. Sheriff’s Office with a nose for finding suspects on the run and missing children.

K9 Lee is retiring from the force. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2004 and has worked with two handlers. He has been Sergeant Nick Bearden’s partner since 2007.

The black lab tracked and apprehended 22 suspects and found 8 missing children. He’s also credited with 1,218 deployments and 844 alerts with finds.

The biggest drug bust of K9 Lee’s career was 20 lbs. of cocaine found off I-10 in 2010.

Sergeant Bearden and K9 Lee won the Top Dog Award in 2011 at the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Regional Field Trials and finished in the top 20 at the USPCA National Competition.

“We are grateful to K9 Lee and for all the contributions he has made in making our community safer,” said Sheriff Mike Adkinson.

Sergeant Bearden will meet his new partner at the end of the month.
