ATLANTA -- A judge in Atlanta confirms that the man who's suspected in 18 stabbing attacks in three states has agreed to waive extradition and go to Michigan to face charges in at least one of the attacks.
In court earlier today, Elias Abuelazam agreed to waive extradition -- but his attorney then called the court to request another hearing. The judge later appeared in the courtroom and affirmed the suspect's earlier decision.
In the suspect's native Israel, meanwhile, relatives and others in the Arab neighborhood where he grew up are expressing shock at his arrest -- saying it's impossible to believe that the shy son of a respected family could have been involved in the gruesome crimes.
But Israeli authorities say Abuelazam was, in fact, a suspect in yet another stabbing -- in Israel earlier this year -- but that charges were never filed.
