PHOENIX -- A political group is demanding that Arizona House Speaker Kirk Adams investigate allegations that a Republican staffer helped recruit Green Party nominees that it calls "sham candidates."

Truth AZ says House Republican adviser John Mills was deeply involved in a conspiracy to siphon votes from Democrats in state legislative races. The group was created to oppose the disputed Green nominees.

The group wants Adams to investigate whether Mills did political work on state time or using taxpayer-funded resources.

Mills and a spokesman for Adams did not immediately return calls for comment on Wednesday.

The Green and Democratic parties have labeled 11 of the Green Party's nominees "sham candidates," but judges declined to kick them off the ballot. Seven have withdrawn.
