Two juvenile suspects are in custody Tuesday morning, following an early morning police chase that ended just a block away from Hutchinson Beach Elementary School.
The details are still developing as the chase ended shortly before 4:30 Tuesday morning. What we do know is police on scene say, a white male and a black male suspect, who was wearing pajama pants, both juveniles, stole a white Chevy Avalanche.
The chase actually began in Chipley, with the two leading Washington County Police on a pursuit down Highway 79 towards Panama City Beach. Panama City Beach Police and Bay County Sheriffs got involved as the pursuit entered Bay County and Panama City Beach limits.
Authorities put spike strips at the foot of the West Bay Bridge, but the suspects managed to keep going, losing two tires as they headed East down Front Beach Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle, ending up in a vacant lot just 30 feet from a home located on Gardenia and Middle Beach Road.
The vehicle came to a stand still with both front tires of the truck destroyed. It’s believed the two took off on foot, however, both were apprehended shortly thereafter.
The two suspects, both under the age of 16, are charged with Grand Theft auto.
