Taking account of the 2010 Spring Break, Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies are reporting hundreds of citations issued for underage drinking.
However, this year’s final tally of 566 citations is only slightly higher than last year’s 542 notices- to- appear for underage possession of alcohol.
Of the notices to appear issued this year, 196 were given to high school students, and 370 were issued to college students. Deputies increased patrols of beaches and other hot spots in an effort to prevent alcohol-induced problems, including other crimes and injuries.
OCSO Special Operations Commander Lt. Ted Pecot says overall, there were no significant alcohol-related Spring Break incidents.
The sheriff’s office is providing the following breakdown of citations issued, by state of residence:
MISSISSIPPI: 67 college students 21 high school students
ALABAMA: 49 college students 30 high school students
GEORGIA: 55 college students 26 high school students
TENNESSEE: 43 college students 24 high school students
LOUISIANA: 38 college students 29 high school students

In addition to the citations for underage drinking, Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies also made at least eight arrests for possession of marijuana and for retail theft, battery on a law enforcement officer, larceny and criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia.
