RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- If the people of Rhinebeck, N.Y., are bothered by all of the goings-on surrounding Chelsea Clinton's wedding there this weekend, it isn't evident today.
As Bill Clinton walked a few blocks to a restaurant and back Friday, an enthusiastic crowd gathered, shouting their congratulations to him as he emerged from lunch.
One resident said, "It's amazing, all this excitement." She said, "We're thrilled that he's here."
As he walked to the restaurant, Clinton told well-wishers that his daughter is "doing well." He said he and his wife both like and admire Marc Mezvinsky, who's about to become their son-in-law.
The village is filling up with onlookers hoping to catch a glimpse of an honored guest. The VIP guest list is said to include such A-listers as Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and some of the Clintons' powerful political allies.
State troopers have been directing the growing number of cars driving through the village, and they're posted outside a private estate that is reportedly the site of tonight's rehearsal dinner.
