Panama City Beach - An Arnold High School student will compete in the girls golf state championship tournament in Lady Lake, in Central Florida, Tuesday. Freshman Lindsey Harrison won the spot after placing 4th at regionals in Pensacola last week, having shot a 94. To say she is a standout golfer would be an understatement.

Lindsey Harrison swings a club like someone well beyond her years. She is number one in the county and number one in the district, as a freshman. But all this success certainly isn't going to her head. "It's been good. I'm hitting the ball pretty good. It's just alot of fun," said Lindsey.

The 14-year-old simply loves to play the game. It's a love that developed when she was quite young. "Since she was probably seven we've been out on the golf course quite a bit and just having a great time as a father and daughter," said Chad Harrison, Lindsey's dad.

While her coaches say her chipping and putting are excellent, it might be her long and accurate drives that set her apart. "I'm pretty consistent with my shots sometimes. Like my drives, you don't think I'm that powerful but I can hit a drive pretty far, I can outdrive most of them," said Lindsey.

Qualifying for state as a freshman was one of her goals; mission accomplished as she competes in the championship tourney on Tuesday. And she is already setting her goals for next year. "It's to get to state and place 10th, in that area."

Her coaches say her work ethic and her genuine love for the game gives her a competitive edge that will likely make her a major contender for years to come. And she's got a message for other young athletes considering golf. "Just come out here and try, you never know, you might be really good."

The Arnold golf team is already raising money to help cover expenses for next year's teams. It was such a hit last year that they are once again inviting you to dinner at the Captain's Table in Panama City on Wednesday, November 9th from 5 to 9pm. Celebrity servers, several from WJHG, will be serving you. All the tips will go to the boys and girls teams.
