Panama City Beach - Arnold High School's Blue Thunder Marching Band is leaving Monday afternoon, they are headed to New York City. The band has been awarded quite an honor. They will be marching in the Veterans' Day parade this Friday, commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for these students.
In New York they will play with the "Band of Pride" in Times Square and march down 5th Avenue in the ceremonial 9/11 parade. "It is a great honor for our band to head to New York and play in the Veterans' Day Parade for New York City that commemorates the September 11th event that happened 10 years ago," said Principal Keith Bland at a recent football game.
"A lot of them will never have this chance again, so they are going to do this once in a lifetime thing they will never forget," said Jason Bennett, Arnold High School Band Director.
"I was so ecstatic. I was so excited that the band will get to march in such a great parade and be able to honor the country in such a great way," said drum major Max Herman.
"It makes me feel very proud to be a part of this country. I am excited to go and remember 9/11 with everyone else in America," said senior Hallie Dodds.
We'll be in touch with the band throughout the week and hope to bring you pictures and video from their performance on Friday.
