AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Beginning this fall, Auburn University will allow couples to use the lawn of historic Samford Hall for wedding ceremonies and renewals of vows.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports (http://bit.ly/p4rjEA ) the university says the lawn will be available for ceremonies on Saturdays and Sundays except for graduation and home football game weekends.
Teresa Whitman-McCall, director of campus and community events, says the university has received many requests for weddings in the past, but was unable to accommodate them. She says a system that makes the weddings practical is now in place.
The university's website states that a couple can rent the lawn for $650 during the spring and summer semesters and for $1,000 in the fall, and that the lawn can accommodate up to 300 guests.
No alcoholic beverages will be allowed.
