Panama City Beach - This week's Golden Apple award winner teaches 6th grade at Breakfast Point Academy. Mr.Rametta is a first year teacher, it's his second career after spending six years in the military. Students and colleagues say he started making an impact right away.

Mike Rametta served in the military police force for several years. It was his desire to serve as a role model that drew him into the classroom. "In my past I didn't have many role models or people that went out of their way to help me so I'm doing this now so I can help influence young people, to show them that there are people out there who care, and try to help them become successful," said Mr. Rametta. Just a few months into his teaching career, he's already having an effect. "He just understands what you've been going through and how you've been behaving. If you are having trouble focusing he will try and make you go harder and push yourself through it," said 6th grader Hunter Hudgens.

He teaches math, science, and history to sixth graders in Breakfast Point's Aspire program. His goal: to help them mainstream into a regular classroom next year. "We know what each individual student needs so we can pinpoint strategies to use for them to specifically help their learning styles. So we are kind of catering to what makes them learn the best," said Mr. Rametta. "He encourages his students to do their best in all areas of life. He has learned to incorporate rigor with his kids as he instructs him, he also uses lots of research based strategies to really engage his students," said Principal Denise Kelley. "We play really fun games but we are still learning at the same time," said 6th grader Ciera King.

Congratulations to Mr. Rametta this week's Golden Apple award winning teacher. "He is a really good teacher. He is like the best teacher I've ever had," said Devon Dean, a 6th grader.
