Callaway City Commissioners now have a tentative budget and a new city clerk.
The tentative budget keeps the ad valorum tax rate at 2.25 mills, but a decrease in property values will lead to a tax break for Callaway residents.
The mayor pointed out this year’s $37 million dollar budget is 8.5% less than last year’s. The commission made cuts in the city attorney’s budget, employee health care costs, and may choose to rent large equipment instead of buying it.
Commissioners also voted to hire former finance department employee Jennifer Vigil as the new city clerk.
