A Seagrove Beach man accused of murdering a 15 year old Georgia tourist faces major trial delays after his attorney quit the murder case.
Judge Kelvin Wells released attorney Lenny Platteborze from representing 22 year old Steven Anthony Cozzie, after Platteborze cited a conflict of interest. Back in July, Cozzie requested a new attorney, then changed his mind during this August 2nd hearing. The court appointed Platteborze after Cozzie was charged with the June 16th kidnapping, rape and murder of 15 year old Courtney Wilkes. Sheriff’s deputies found Wilkes’ strangle and beaten body in some woods near a condominium where her family was vacationing.
Cozzie is pleading not guilty. The state is seeking the death penalty.
