The man at the center of the DeFuniak Springs city manager controversy say he no longer wants the job.
Mike Standley is removing himself from taking over as DeFuniak Springs city manager. Thursday Standley thanked council members for their interest, but wrote in a statement “the job is hard enough with total support and that this situation has gone on much too long.”
Some citizens complained when the council selected Standley as their choice, without interviewing him or performing background checks. When the council finally agreed to the background check, more problems arose.
City police complained City Attorney Clayton Adkinson tried to rush the process and told them not to dig too deep into Standley’s background.
