Deane Bozeman 8th Grade Math Teacher Wins Golden Apple Award

Panama City - This week's Golden Apple award winner teaches 8th grade math at Deane Bozeman School. Always smiling and full of energy, students and colleagues say Mrs. Sims is a rock for her 8th graders.

"She makes math easy, when we go in it's like, what are we learning today?" said Marshall Sowell, the student who nominated Mrs. Sims.
If you don't like math, you just might after a few minutes in Mrs. Sims class. "Math is my least favorite subject but her class is my favorite, so she helped me like math alot," said 8th grader Reilly Thomes.

Students say she is a great storyteller, and that helps them understand difficult concepts. "She tells a story, and shows us some examples and there we go," said Marshall. "I try to make everything as simple as possible, to break it down and make it relevant," said Mrs. Sims. She also strives to stay positive. "I think the environment that you teach in makes a huge difference with how the students respond, so if I can be happy about stuff, even if I'm not having the best day, if I can have the best day in class, then it really makes a big difference."

"Mrs. Sims is very enthusiastic in the classroom. She has great passion for teaching, the students love her. Content wise she is very, very smart, she knows how to relate well to the kids, she is just so involved in the school as a whole," said Deane Bozeman Principal Josh Balkom.

Congratulations to Mrs. Sims, this week's Golden Apple award winning teacher. "Mrs. Sims is an excellent teacher," said Marshall.
