Panama City Beach -- Council members approved the bid specification for the design and construction contract for Aaron Bessant Park. That bid will now be advertised to companies interested in doing the project. Vice Mayor, Ken Nelson and Council-woman, Josie Strange who have consistently voted against the park renovation project, voted against the bid advertisement.
The other hot item involved operational policies for Aaron Bessant Park. The council addressed traffic enforcement, the number of tickets that can be sold for events, and blackout dates for park usage. Those would include Spring Break, and the majority of the summer tourism season from June until mid-August.
"The operational policies are something I feel good about, that we're moving to put that in place. It's something that we should have done earlier because at this point we do not have the kind of policies in place to control the activity there, and now we will so whether we go forward or we don't, we still need those policies in place" said Gayle Oberst, Mayor of Panama City Beach.
Council members postponed some of the items until their next meeting in January, including noise enforcement. They are waiting on a report from an acoustical engineer. They also tabled the redrawing of the city’s four wards.
