Dieting is not easy. Sometimes, we need all of the help we can get from people, whether they're in the room, or online.
Now many are drawing strength from the world of social media. This new trend is proving to be effective, using social media to help reach weight loss goals.
"The more people that know what you're trying to do or what you're supposed to be doing the more you're going to stick to it because you have those people looking out for you, they're giving you encouragement, and they'll help remind you if you're tempted to miss a workout or have that extra snack," said Andrea Rumschlag, R.D. with Cleveland Clinic.
Dieticians say many people benefit from using social media sites to lose weight because they're posting details about their progress. This leads to encouragement and accountability.
It's also beneficial for connecting people with a similar goal. They can lose weight together, becoming weight loss partners. You can also use social media to lose weight by snapping pictures of your meals.
"Taking pictures of what we're eating is just another way of doing what we used to call a food journal or a food diary. And those are ways that have been shown to help us either lose the weight or keep it off because it makes us accountable for what we're eating. It's showing I’ve had this healthy meal. This is the ideal meal for me and for my diet plan, so I want to stick to it," said Rumschlag.
Allowing people to keep tabs on you through social media may help you to reach your weight-loss goals by holding you accountable.
