Dont Quit Smoking Alone

Resolutions can be tricky. Do you go 'cold turkey' or ease into something new? Some experts say if you resolve to quit smoking, it's all or nothing, but don't do it alone.

"Cigarettes and toxins, you can't just ban them a little bit. So, cigarettes, when you decide your quit day, you quit. You get help because when you go on the pill or patch, exercise and a buddy you get much higher success rates," said Dr. Michael Roizen.

Dr. Roizen says food resolutions should be started full fledged too because some food ingredients are addicting.

He recommends going 'cold turkey' when eliminating unhealthy items from your diet.

The '5 food felons' - added sugars, syrups, grain that isn't 100% whole grain, saturated fats and trans fats - should be tossed immediately.

Exercise, however, is a resolution that should be approached with baby steps.

"You can't jump into full physical activity at once. 10,000 steps, 20 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight lifting. 20 minutes of cardio 3-times per week. 30 minutes of weight lifting a week. You can't jump into that all at once or you'll end up with injuries."

Before starting any new exercise routine, be sure to speak with your doctor.
