As your kids head back to class, teach them some ways to decrease their chances of getting sick at school.
It all starts with hand washing.
If your kids are old enough, experts say sending along antibacterial hand wipes or sanitizer. Make sure your child eats properly and gets plenty of sleep, and when it gets cold outside, send them outdoors to play.
“Some people have the perception that if you are inside that’s good because going outside you’ll get sick. It’s kind of the opposite, so you want to play outside, you will not get ill from playing outside, in fact, being inside is where all of the germs like the stay” says Dr. Skyler Kalady, Cleveland Clinic.
Experts say a flu vaccine is the best prevention from the flu, and they are already available this season.
