HS FB coach sentencing Aug. 16 in sex scandal

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Former high-school football coach Dwight G. Bowling will be sentenced Aug. 16 on federal charges in a sex scandal that rocked northeast Mississippi and Alabama high school athletics.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/nQWv3K ) that the 56-year-old faces what could effectively be a life sentence on two counts of taking boys from Mississippi to Alabama for sex, and one of trying to keep a witness from testifying.
He pleaded guilty in April to the federal charges and in June to 14 state counts.
Bowling coached 28 years at Smithville (Miss.) High School, then retired and took the coaching job at Sulligent High in Alabama.
He's been in federal custody in Lafayette County since soon after his arrest on the way home from a Sulligent football game in September 2010.
