Panama City - This week's Golden Apple winner is a kindergarten teacher at Hiland Park Elementary School. Diane Reinstatler says herself, she has a lot of energy. After nearly 20 years in a kindergarten classroom, she has no plans for slowing down.
Some say kindergarten is just nursery school. Mrs. Reinstatler proves that couldn't be further from the truth. Her students are sounding out letters and learning to read. "The focus in kindergarten has really changed, now we want to engage every child all the time so we are constantly looking for ways to do that," said Mrs. Reinstatler. One of their favorite ways to learn is in centers. "It changes every 15 minutes so it's active and it goes by in a flash. They just soak it up like a sponge."
"I have a lot of energy naturally and this is a great format for my energy. I love that the kids come in ready to learn they are eager, that is the awesome thing about kindergarten, they are just so ready to learn." "She is fun and I like everything she does," said student Anna Wagoner. "She always gives 100% in the classroom and I think the most important thing about Mrs. Reinstatler is that she makes her learning active, the children have hands on experiences and she makes that experience fun for them," said Patti Fowler, the principal at Hiland Park Elementary.
Congratulations to Diane Reinstatler, this week's Golden Apple award winning teacher. "You work and work and work and one of them will go, oh, oh, you know that lightbulb that we all talk about comes on and that is the reward really."
