Libraries Promoting National Banned Book Week

This week, the American Library Association is promoting national banned book week.

Sunday various volunteer groups held a mock school board meeting. The banning of “Robert Cormier Fade” was the topic as supporters and opponents addressed the board. The event kicks off a week of activities aimed at teaching people about the freedom of intellectual property.
Bay County made national news back in 1987, when then-school superintendent Leonard Hall tried to ban several books from the school curriculum.

Last year, Washington County decided against a parent’s request to ban the Florida literary classic “The Yearling.”
