The proposed legislation raises questions about the possibility of casino resorts opening in our area.
Florida voters rejected casino gambling amendments in 1978, 1986, and 1994, but much have changed in the 17 years since that last vote. Florida’s paramutuel facilities now have poker rooms. The tracks in Dade and Broward counties have slot machines, and the Seminole Indians operate seven full casinos.
“As people are looking at it, there itwo sides to it and it will largely be left up to the policy makers and local government and its citizens” said Dan Rowe, Tourist Development Council Executive Director.
If the proposal gets out of the legislature, which is not a guarantee, it would then go to the voters.
