One Dead in Early Morning Shooting

PANAMA CITY BEACH-- Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Thursday morning at The Club apartments on R. Jackson Boulevard. Residents reported hearing gunshots around 1:00 a.m.

When police responded to The Club they found a man with multiple gun shot wounds lying on the ground near the entrance.

He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

"The individual did pass away a little while ago so it's a tragic event for him and his family. We're still trying to ID him. We don't have a positive ID on him at this time," said Chief Drew Whitman.

Witnesses say the suspect took off on foot. A helicopter and K-9 units from the Bay County Sheriff's office were sent to assist in the search.

The Panama City Beach Police have the suspect in custody. The case is still under investigation.
