PCB Hedgehog Predicts Wonderful Season

PANAMA CITY BEACH -- The Panama City Beach hedgehog, as yet unnamed, did not see its shadow this morning when it came out from beneath its sand pail, signaling the continuation of sunny weather and a wonderful spring season.

That was the word this morning from PCB Mayor Gayle Oberst, who took part in the inaugural ceremony with NewsChannel 7 Today's Paris Janos and Zoo World's Stephanie Willard.

"He said we're going to have sunshine, beautiful weather and a wonderful season," Oberst said.

Will we have six more weeks of winter, as predicted by another mammal in Pennsylvania? "No, no," Oberst said.

The mayor had proclaimed the day as Hedgehog Day in Panama City Beach and presented the proclamation to Paris on the pier.

In honor of the day, Zoo World will present Hedgehog Day on Saturday, starting at noon. Admission to the park will be $5 for everyone and information about hedgehogs will be posted throughout. There will be a hedgehog look-aling contest and people coming to the park are encouraged to spike their hair like the animal.

Hedgehog Day was the invention of NewsChannel 7 Today. It's expected to become an annual event in Panama City Beach.
