Panama City Beach - This week's Golden Apple Award winner teaches kindergarten at Patronis Elementary School on Panama City Beach. Cyrethia Vines says she can't imagine doing anything else.
Learning is celebrated every day in Mrs. Vines kindergarten classroom. "She is so animated and she has just the most exciting learning environment that you could ever imagine," said Patronis Elementary School Principal Ellie Spivey. "I get to come to school and be a kindergartner every single day. To me, this is the year that they really grow the most," said Mrs. Vines.
While still colorful, exciting, and fun, kindergarten requirements have become much more challenging. "She sets that firm foundation for the kids. It's just like first grade used to be," said Principal Spivey. "They are adding and subtracting and doing fractions. Things that when I was young, we didn't think about until third or fourth grade," said Mrs. Vines.
She uses the latest technology to help her students master letters and sounds. "She is nice and she helps me learn," said Riley Fulton, one of Mrs. Vines students. "She is the best," said Mario. "She is very nice, she always dresses very pretty," said Delaney Michael, whose mother nominated Mrs. Vines.
Congratulations to Mrs. Vines, this week's Golden Apple Award winning teacher. "I can't imagine doing anything else. It's not what we do, it's who we are. You don't just teach... you are a teacher," she said.
