What are our *known* issues going to be? 1.) High surf! Already today, rip current statement are in effect, and local beaches are going to red and double red flags as a result. 2.) Tropical showers! They will be non-severe and will blow through quickly, but have the potential to drop some locally heavy rain. 3.) Steady wind! Likely NOT to tropical storm force, but still fairly gusty, especially along the immediate coastline.
What are the *unknown* issues heading into the weekend? 1.) Strength of this developing Gulf low. Some models range in strength from a weak tropical depression to a moderate hurricane. 2.) Path of this developing Gulf low. Models again range from the upper coast of Texas to as far east as Pensacola. 3.) How much rain will the northern Gulf receive? It is pretty apparent that Louisiana will be hit hard, with as much as 15″ over the weekend. Surrounding states could see as little as 1″ or as much as 5″.
