The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office wants residents to know a “winners” scam is circulating through the mail in Okaloosa County.

NewsChannel 7 has attached a copy of the letter and check above. (See the "Fraud Alert" document above)

Residents are receiving a letter from 'Worden Safety Products, LLC 'stating “you are one of the winners in the CONSUMER PROMOTION DRAW organized for all customers of the major stores in the U.S.A, Canada and Britain for the Second Quarter, in 2009.”

Enclosed is a check for $4,450.00, deducted from your prize, which is for your tax payment. Recipients of the letter are told to send monies from the check for tax payment to the British Government through Western Union Money or Money Gram International.

The check and the letter are not good (fake)! Residents should not send any monies back for taxes. If residents receive a letter and/or a check, for this scam or any other, please call the Sheriff’s Office CASE Fraud Hotline 651-7674.
