Hearings on Charges for Ex-House Speaker Postponed

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Hearings on criminal and ethics charges against ousted Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom have been postponed again.

A House committee said Friday that discussion of an ethics complaint against the former speaker would be delayed until Feb. 2 to give Sansom more time to hire an attorney while legal motions in a separate criminal case scheduled Friday against the Destin Republican were postponed until Feb. 19.

Sansom, who was originally indicted last year on official misconduct and perjury charges, faces new charges in the legal system of grand theft and conspiracy to commit grand theft. The House Select Committee on Standards of Official Conduct could recommend anything from dismissing the complaint to expelling Sansom.
