Near Drowning in FWB

Fort Walton Beach – The Fort Walton Beach Fire Department revived a man around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, after he was found floating in the water at the Fort Walton Landing on Brooks Street.

According to witnesses at the scene, 61 year-old Allen Sweetman was sleeping on the pier at the Landing when he either jumped or rolled off into the water.

Sweetman was pulled from the water by a citizen, John Paul Kelly, who was trying to resuscitate him when emergency crews arrived. When fire crews began working on Sweetman he had labored breathing and a pulse, but was not responsive. His heart did stop on the way to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, but EMS crews were able to regain a pulse. His condition is unknown at this time.

The Fort Walton Beach Police Department is investigating the incident. No more information is available at this time.
