Bay County Commissioners Don't Want Rescue Mission Moved

Bay County Commissioners are putting the brakes on plans to relocate the Panama City Rescue Mission.

Commissioners say Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki’s plans to move the Rescue Mission to the Highway 231 Industrial Park, would put it in county jurisdiction, making it a county issue. Brudnicki also wants the county to pay for part of the $1.9 million dollar facility.
Tuesday several commissioners said the new shelter would create an open invitation for the homeless all over the southeast, possibly doubling the population within a year.

Commissioners are asking Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen to meet with local police chiefs to try and weed out the vagrants from the homeless, before discussing any new shelter plans.
