Bay County Sheriff's Office Investigating A Man For Cashing Fake Check

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case involving a man who cashed a fictitious check at a local financial institution for a large amount of money.

Further investigation has revealed the same man was observed at three different financial institutions in the Bay County area on the afternoon of Friday, August 26, 2011. Each time employees of the banks stated the man acted strangely, waiting for other customers to leave before making contact with the staff. A review of security video also revealed the suspect did not park within the parking lots of the banks but parked in the lots of nearby businesses.

At one financial institution, the suspect claimed he wanted to cash a check, but when asked to give his fingerprint, the suspect quickly said he had forgotten something in his car and left the building. The suspect did tell one bank clerk his name was David Garton and his wife’s name was Stelisa Garton, however this information remains unconfirmed.

The suspect picture was taken from security video. (seen on right)

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call Investigator Craig Romans at the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at 248-2075 or Crime Stoppers at 785-TIPS.
