Defuniak Springs City Council Members say they are still on track to rehire city manger Mike Standley next Monday.
Standley was the Defuniak Springs City Manager for 21 years, before abruptly resigning in 2005, without giving an explanation.
Council members had cited his previous employment as reason for waiving an interview, reference, background and credit checks, but recently council members changed their minds, requesting those reviews. However, they may not be complete before Standly is scheduled to begin as new city manager on Monday.
Mayor Harold Carpenter says he will not sign Standley’s contract.
