A statewide group is still working to reduce Florida’s infant mortality rate after 20 years.
It is called “Healthy Start” and it kicked off in June of 1991. Last year, seven out of every 1,000 infants in Florida died from different health complications. In Northwest Florida, that number was closer to eight.
Officials say, although numbers have gone down slightly over the years, too many babies are dying from preventable causes.
