Gopher Tortoises Released In Walton County

WALTON COUNTY-- A group of gopher tortoises were released back into the wild Monday. About 25 tortoises were rescued from a construction site in Apopka.

They were then brought to Nokuse Plantation in Walton County where they were let go.

The construction site was permitted under the state's former incidental take policy to kill or bury the animals alive but the developer chose not to and wanted to ensure the tortoises would not be harmed.
